Ahead of their LIMF show this weekend, Getintothis pinned down Trudy and the Romance for a 13 Questions style interrogation.
Trudy and the Romance are a band it can be hard to describe.
Previous attempts in these very pages have said that they sound ‘like the 50s have come back as a zombie’, that frontman Oliver Taylor looked ‘like Dick from the Famous Five on a sugar rush’ and that they were our new favourite mutant 50s pop band. All of which adds up to an intriguing proposition to say the least.
Their skewed take on 50s pop marks them out as unique, not to mention superbly entertaining. Trudy and the Romance also posses a keen ear for a pop hook and a pre-Beatles vibe that is entirely charming.
This weekend, the band take to the stage at LIMF to showcase their charms to one and all. Before this, Getintothis asked drummer Bradley Mullins 13 questions and found out about coming down from Latitude Festival, first gigs and the lack of guilty pleasures.
1. Where are you and what are you doing?
Just at home after a heavy night at Latitude and a long drive, catching up on #LoveIsland
2. How is that working out?
Pretty good, the mist of hangover is slowly wearing off
3. What is your favourite film?
There’s loads, but we were talking about how much we like Rear Window the other day so we’ll go with that for now.
4. What is your favourite book?
Again there’s too many to choose from! But mine is probably Dharma Bums by Kerouac, Olly’s is Catcher in the Rye I think .

5. What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a round of drinks?
I dread to think; a night in London can really sting, baby
6. Which do you prefer, playing live or being in a recording studio?
They’re both good for different reasons obviously, but touring probably edges it for me.
7. What was the first record you bought with your own money?
For me, I think it was maybe Puzzle by Biffy (Clyro)? Olly and Lew probably have cooler ones.
8. What was the first gig you went to?
Probably the Killers in Sheffield, no idea of the year but I was v young and loved every second.
9. What is the worst gig you’ve ever done?
There was one in Derby that we still talk about today for the wrong reasons, very strange.
10. What’s your first memory?
No idea, is that weird?
11. What’s your guilty listening pleasure?
I don’t know if we feel guilty listening to anything that we like, but we definitely listen to some very, very uncool music on occasion- love it tho.
12. Vinyl, CD, MP3 or Streaming?
Vinyl for sure.
