As the punk festival returns to Blackpool celebrate its 22nd Birthday, Getintothis’ Banjo looks forward at what we can expect
Starting in 1996 under the name Holidays in the Sun, the Rebellion Festival celebrates all things punk. With over 300 acts spread over four days and many stages, it features acoustic performances, readings, a punk art gallery and stalls selling music, clothes and memorabilia. For punks old and young, it is a time to come together, catch up with old friends and make new ones.
Rebellions main attractions this year include Public Image Ltd, Buzzcocks and Stiff Little Fingers. Other acts include Peter Hook and the Light, Slaughter and the Dogs, The Professionals and the Cockney Rejects.

Avoiding becoming merely an exercise in nostalgia, Rebellion has a New Band stage featuring the best in up and coming punk acts. Rebellion has also featured bands and performers from outside of punk and this year sees Hanoi Rocks frontman Michael Monroe take to the boards.
There is also the At the Edge area, providing what the organisers call ‘a little haven in the middle of all the chaos.’ Here you will find the Almost Acoustic stage, providing a space to kick back and see some more laid back performances from some punk legends and the chance to play Punk Rock Bingo with Max Splodge.
In keeping with the cross generational appeal of punk in 2018, Rebellion is a family friendly festival, with children under 12 even getting free entry if accompanied by an adult with a weekend ticket.
And with all of this taking place under cover at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens, Rebellion is the festival that the great British weather can’t spoil.
The full line up, split day by day, is here.
Rebellion takes place from August 2 – August 5. Tickets are currently £140 for an early bird ticket.
