Marmozets to play O2 Academy, Kylie’s coming and The Proclaimers are on their way too, as Getintothis’ Lewis Ridley reports in this week’s wrap up.
Marmozets are set to play O2 Academy as part of their UK tour on Saturday, May 5. The West Yorkshire band released their latest album, Knowing What You Know Now last month and was widely praised by the likes of NME and Kerrang.
They’ll headline at Download Festival in June as well as the Community Festival in July after the 9-date tour which stops off in Liverpool for a valuable Saturday night slot.
Kylie Minogue will play Echo Arena on Wednesday, October 3. Last month, the Australian superstar released new single Dancing from her forthcoming new album.
While she may only stand at 5 feet tall, Kylie is known to put on an extravagant show, she last came to the city in 2014 where Getintothis witnessed a seductive performance, throughout which she was met with utter adoration from the Liverpool crowd.
The Proclaimers have announced a date at Empire Theatre on Sunday, October 14. The date is part of a huge UK tour that includes already sold out Scottish dates.
Now, ahead of their currently untitled 11th studio album, they’ll play 39 (thirty-nine!) UK dates towards the back end of the year, with one of those back in Liverpool where there’ll be more dancing in the aisles to their famous 500 Miles.
Colour will play 81 Renshaw on Tuesday, March 15. The Liverpool band featured in February’s Unknown Pleasures column, where Getintothis’ Mike Stanton described new track Black as: “a convulsive slice of alt-prog-rock and evokes the sharp-edged sounds of the late 70’s and early 80’s post-punk and new wave movement.”
This coming Friday (March 2), The Shipping Forecast will host their latest Shipwrecked night, where Sunstack Jones will headline with The Shipbuilders in support.
In April The Shipbuilders will release a Double A-side single with Chester label Mai 68, keep your eyes peeled on Getintothis for news on that.
Rural Oxfordshire has given birth to a supergroup of sorts in the form of the colourful, multi-faceted trio of Bennett Wilson Poole, who will bring Americana and folk vibes to Liverpool in the spring.
Danny Wilson and Robin Bennett have joined forces with Tony Poole and will play 81 Renshaw on Friday, May 11, by which time their debut album will have appeared on April 6.
Mouses will play EBGBs with guests on Thursday, April 12. Steven Bardgett and Nathan Duff make up the lo-fi garage rock duo from Billingham who blew up the Kracken stage back at Sound City 2015.
SKO Events, in conjunction with Pep Winter, will be hosting a free entry punk rock all-dayer on Saturday, May 19 at The 27 Club.
Pulling together is a line-up from in and around the area including Bear Trap, Cuecliché, Everyone And Anyone, Hummer, The Hunx, Meet The Robots, Pardon Us, Red Winter and Three From Above.
This week’s new track comes from Cardiff band Himalayas. If I Tell You is typical of the style they’ve paraded across the UK with This Feeling, full of attitude with the volume cranked right up.
