Leader of acclaimed 90’s American roots rockers Grant Lee Buffalo stops off in Liverpool as part of a short national tour in April, Getintothis’ Will Neville reports.
Grant-Lee Phillips releases his ninth solo album Widdershins on Yep Roc on 23 February next year. These nine follow on from two records he released as a member of Shiva Burlesque in the 1980’s, and then four as leader of Grant Lee Buffalo, so there’ll be plenty of material to choose from at his upcoming shows.
Born in California, Phillips is now based in Nashville, claiming that this new album was inspired by “the things that eat away in the late hours”. It was mostly recorded live in the studio with Lex Price on bass and drummer Jerry Roe, who has worked with the likes of Emmylou Harris and k.d. lang.
First song to be previewed from the new record, Totally You Gunslinger, is being promoted as a mix of Roy Orbison and The Smiths, while this writer can hear elements of Chris Isaak and Dave Edmunds in there too.
He returns to Liverpool on this tour for the first time since a stunning show at Leaf back in June 2015.
Tickets are on sale now.
