Always peering between the cracks, Getintothis’ Del Pike gives us a brief run down of what else is on offer at this year’s Sound City.
It’s more than likely that most of you will be heading down to Sound City to hear the stellar line-up of live acts who once again are making this one of the most celebrated music festivals in the country.
However, as with most festivals, often the most intriguing sights and sound can be found between stages and hidden away in the corners of the arena.
Here’s a brief guide to some of the events and attractions that are taking place around the docklands to stimulate, satisfy and even shock!
Ten Sound City Saturdays
Edge Hill University students have been working with Sound City each Saturday since March, showcasing music and creativity across The City and around Ormskirk. The project will culminate at the festival on Saturday with a.P.A.t.T: Observed Music and the Emerging Talent stage. A great opportunity to support new talent who could well take the main stage in future years.
Katumba
With over 80 drummers, Katumba’s presence at Sound City cannot be ignored, and who would want to ignore this… Their performance will be a celebration of diversity and multi-culturalism through movement and music, a much-needed commodity in UK 2017.
Fiesta Bombarda
Making a dynamic debut at Sound City this year, Fiesta Bombarda promise to bring the party with unmissable exotica, whatever the weather. Described as Carnival Starters, this renowned group guarantee a splendid time for all.
Brazilica
This hugely popular Brazilian Street Parade was one of the highlights of 2008’s City of Culture programme. Collaborating with Fiesta Bombarda at this year’s Sound City, this will be an unmissable spectacle, a mind-blowing party, celebrating all things Brazilian.
Tim Peaks Diner
The Charlatans’ Tim Burgess will be in conversation with John Cale (The Velvet Underground) and himself???. The venue will also include live music and promises some very special surprise guests. Keep checking in to see who turns up.
Unusual Art Sourcing Company
Life art, live sculpture, poetry and projections are all part of the bill with this startling art group who proved to be a true festival favourite last year. This year the group will also present We Are Ian who will be performing In Bed With My Brother, a shocking production that demands audience participation. Expect the unexpected and prepare to be thrilled.
Global Local
This incredible label will be doing what it does best, presenting local bands with a truly international flavour to the dockside masses. This year sees the welcome presence of BYOB, Fandjango and Kog and the Zongo Brigade. Don’t forget your passport!
The Martini Lounge
Taking Residence in Tim Peaks Diner be prepared for a spectacle of magical acrobatics and sizzling burlesque from Fred Bear, Kiki Lovechild, Millie Dollar and Scarlett Daggers. There’s even an opportunity to join in with a go-go dancing workshop. Who could resist?
Continental Drifts
A collaboration between BYOB and Fiesta Bombarda will see a procession culminating in a battle of the bands Brass-Off! We expect an explosion of sound to rattle the warehouses good and proper.
Do try and support the artists who are adding a little bit of alternative sparkle to Sound City this year, without them it just wouldn’t be the same.
And finally here’s the full run down of the stage times and map
Update: Please be aware that Sound City have added some extra security restrictions to this year’s festival.
