With a stellar set of names set to perform the seminal album in its entirety, Getintothis’ Craig MacDonald has all the details.
Liverpool Sound City has revealed a huge set of names to join John Cale for his exclusive performance of The Velvet Underground & Nico on May 26, as the seminal album celebrates its 50th anniversary.
In what will be a European exclusive performance of the iconic record by the founding member of the art rock legends, several of his special guests will be playing exclusively for the event which has long since sold out, that will see them join Cale to perform the album at Clarence Dock in its entirety.
Having composed the soundtrack to Dylan Thomas biography Set Fire to the Stars and released Super Furry Animals first new material in nearly a decade, Gruff Rhys will join his fellow Welshman for the one off extravaganza, while The Kills will make not one, but two much anticipated appearances at this years festival, with the rockers also joining the party.
With many heralding their groundbreaking closing set at last year’s Liverpool Music Week, Liverpool music royals Clinic return to the Northern Docks and will be sure to add a distinctive twist to the classic album. They they are joined by the potent talents of Nadine Shah, with the songstress set to release her third long player, Holiday Destination, later this year having conquered last year’s Guy Garvey’s Meltdown in London.
Metronomy talk their sixth album, skate videos and not taking the foot off the gas
Rounding off this set of incredible names are the debauch lo-fi monsters Fat White Family, who having released their tremendous sophomore album last year, will be making their return to Liverpool with their annihilation of the Kazimier very fresh in our minds.
They will be joined by the muscular grooves of indie rock stalwarts Wild Beasts, who make a swift return to these parts following their headline performance at this years bustling FestEVOL Gardens line up.
Talking about the guests, Cale said, “It’s such a privilege to have this caliber of artistry about – its not that they fit the legend, rather the legend is part of them. Stand back Liverpool – here we come!”
With the following day seeing John Cale return to Liverpool Sound City for Tim Peaks Diner for an In Conversation session, and being joined by Danny Fields, the legendary manager of The Velvet Underground, there is bound to be more then a few people wanting to chat to about this exceptional lineup.
