DJ Ross From Friends turned up at the Buyers Club, and Getintothis’ Stephen Geisler was knocked out.
The party at Buyers Club on the night of March 10, put on by Familiar Circles and headlined by the renowned South London DJ Ross From Friends, had a slow start, as arguably any good night should.
Resident DJs from Familiar Circles opened the night, and even with a nearly empty house the music was incredibly promising; the question could only be asked, ‘can it get any better from here?’
Of course, Banoffee Pies, who followed the Familiar Circles DJs, and the man himself, Ross, did not fail to disappoint.
Ross From Friends is a relatively recent success in techno, and is shaping up to be even more so in the near future.
If you haven’t heard of him by now, the likelihood is that you will hear a lot more from him soon.
His hit Talk To Me You’ll Understand has scored 1.4 million views on YouTube and 200 thousand plays on Soundcloud since late 2015, when he mysteriously dropped a number of tracks on Soundcloud, initiating his inevitable rise.
When Ross took the stage at Buyers Club at nearly 1 a.m., after the energetic sets from the openers, it was obvious that the crowd had been waiting for him.
The energy of the music and the crowd rose in a huge way as he rocked the house with his great, high energy, synth pad- and vocal sample- laden tracks, complimented by a guitar player on his left and a synth and keyboard player – who doubled on saxophone at times – on his right.
The return of The KLF: Is the world ready for Drummond & Cauty?
Ross’s presence onstage was absolutely perfect, rocking his retro baseball cap and standing in the shadows while still intensely connected to the crowd through his rapturous music.
This was not a night to be missed, as a live set from Ross seems to be a rare occasion.
However, his next set is announced to be on March 31 in Cardiff. Catch him if you can, it will be well worth it.
