Open Circuit Festival arrives in March bringing its most varied offering to date, Getintothis’ Jonny Davis Le Brun on the smorgasbord of live music about to unfold.

This year’s Open Circuit Festival, organised by the University of Liverpool and Interdisciplinary Centre for Composition and Technology (ICCaT) is set to once again deliver an exciting week-long programme of experimental contemporary music and discussion.

And the best part? It’s all free to attend.

The festival runs from March 24-29 in the Victoria Gallery and Museum and features a unique series of events exploring computer-musician interaction, from adaptive audiovisual scores to free improvisations and digital game pieces.

Highlights of the cutting edge festival include rising star Richard Craig performing new music for flute and electronics, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra’s Ensemble 10/10 presenting a concert by Swedish composer Christian Lindberg, and Pixels Ensemble performing music by the pioneering French composer Philippe Manoury.

James Taylor’s JT at 40 years on – not the voice of a generation but a voice for anyone

Past editions have hosted the likes of iconic British composer Sir Harrison Birtwistle and contemporary cellist and Jonny Greenwood collaborator, Oliver Coates.

A full 2017 programme and registration details may be found at the Open Circuit website.

All events are free to attend but booking is essential.
