Lilium

Amidst the cold, pizza and cake, Getintothis’ Shaun Ponsonby checks out the launch party for Lilium’s debut single and brings us the exclusive video premiere.

It was a cold night. Very cold, in fact. Even inside 24 Kitchen Street we kept our coats on and didn’t break a sweat. Yet somehow it seemed appropriate. The label is called Deathly Records, after all. Their tagline – “Sinister Music For Sinister People” – almost seemed to invite the climate.

God On My Right kicked things off, their almost glacial attitude chiming with the atmosphere in the room, before Etches added warmth with their underlying pop sensibilities.

The acts culled from Deathly’s roster – OVVLS and headliners Lilium – undoubtedly stole the show. The former were returning from a US trek, and the duo were received rapturously by the crowd.

Fall in love with labels, including Warp, Antipop, Death Row & more

There was a surge forward for the headliners and the full-ish venue suddenly felt packed. This really was Lilium’s night. The single they are launching, Disappear, showed up with a pleasant twist and extended intro, and the already ramped up performance was taken up another notch. We have already summed up the track pretty accurately as “A sparkling, proggy adventure”, but on stage the song allows the band to tap into a higher plane.

By the end of the set, Andrew Heselton was on top of the speakers and jumping into the crowd, who had just filled themselves with pizza and cake. We’d forgotten about the cold. That, darling, is how you throw a party.

To put the figurative cherry on top Lilium have now premiered their hand animated video for their debut single Disappear which is released today. Take an exclusive first look below.
