Underground electronica night, Emotion Wave, are set to release their first compilation in aid of the Whitechapel Centre, Getintothis’ Ste Knight has news on the launch party.
Liverpool’s bi-monthly electronica night, Emotion Wave, have been rocking the back room of 81 Renshaw Street for over a year now, and they are set to release a charity album in aid of the Whitechapel Centre with a launch party at Frederick’s on Hope Street, on December 18.
Blankets is a compilation album featuring a diverse range of experimental electronic music from Liverpool and further afield. The aim of the album is to raise funds for the Whitechapel Centre, a charity that aims to meet the needs of the homeless in Liverpool.
The album features new and unreleased music from; Mark Lawless, Afternaut, Polypores, Germanager, Melodien, Jean Michel Noir, Foxen Cyn, Neo Luddites, Spirit Level, She Swims, Lo Five, Isocore, Mitternacht, Double Echo, The Gentle Sex, Claire Welles.
The album will be released on Bandcamp, here, the same day as the launch event, which will take place from 2-11pm at Frederiks bar on December 18. The launch event will be a free-to-attend, all-day fundraiser, featuring live sets from Foxen Cyn, Spirit Level, Germanager, Isocore, Neo Luddites, Double Echo, Jean Michel Noir, Polypores, She Swims, Mark Lawless, Lo Five, DJ – Mook, and Loxley.
The Whitechapel Centre is the leading homeless and housing charity for the Liverpool region. They work with people who are sleeping rough, living in hostels or struggling to manage their accommodation. They are committed to helping people find and maintain a home and learn the life skills essential for independent living.

The Whitechapel Centre work with Liverpool City Council to deliver their ‘No Second Night Out’ campaign, which aims to ensure nobody lives or sleeps on the streets of Liverpool. The campaign encourages people to contact the charity direct to report concerns about rough sleepers, to make sure homeless people get the help and support they need and don’t spend another night sleeping rough. We were lucky enough to be in attendance at the last Emotion Wave event, featuring performances from Aerospherix, the mysteriously named Pyrangulator, and the Simon Jones Chillout Donk Experience.
Aerospherix gave an assured performance. The 19-year-old played an awesome live set which encapsulated the post-dubstep/techno hybrid sound perfectly. Blistering beats backed his continuously shifting bass and lead lines, and not even a hissy fit by the fire alarm could put this young maestro off his performance. Genuinely great stuff from a promising young artist, and one we think you should definitely keep your eye on for the future.
Pyrangulator is an interdimensional transmitter, that sends music from alternate realities to its conduit here on earth, David Jeffery. Pyrangulator beamed a myriad of musical delights fromm the astral plane down to its earth minion. We are unlikely to ever hear a performance the same way again, as the music our symbiotic being sends down to Jeffery is largely improvised. There’s an empathic sense to the Pyrangulator sound. Our performer feels the music he creates, as well as hearing it.
The Simon Jones Chillout Donk Experience certainly was just that, an experience – and not one that we will forget in a long time. Glitched out beats wrangled with all manner of electronic squiggles, beeps and tweets. Feedback and sonic stabs built an impressive wall of sound that left the observer somewhat breathless. A brilliant performance that we look forward to repeating in the near future.
