Below, we present a hat-trick of newcomers hailing from London, Melbourne and Belfast coming with sounds of surf, gritty rock and roll and atmospheric, dreamy art-pop. Put your best headphones on and thank us later.
ROCH
ROCH is a South East London native studying sculpture at Central Saint Martins, her Tumblr blog is a moodboard of visual art while her songs are the amalgamation of all of this, and more.
The electronic greytone of Woman’s Hour, the glamour of Bat for Lashes and the minimalist romanticism of The xx all weave their way into latest cut Vienna, which is so vivid in its imagery and creative in its construction that it’s right up there with the most evocative expressions of artistic disposition we’ve heard in a long while.
With ROCH‘s perfect use of space, suspense and suggestion in her music, we’re literally on the edge of our seats waiting for what’s next.
Next up, it’s Belfast trio Hot Cops, who have been lurking under the radar over in Ireland for a little while and their latest track, Dumbbo, is the unnerving sound of a band catching glimpses of daylight for the first time.
Following on from the equally angst-ridden Passive Passive and Scared of Everything, Dumbbo burns slowly but erupts when the vocal of Carl Eccles turns from a drawl to a howl and all hell breaks loose in a whirlwind of brutal guitars and pounding drums.
Truly one of the most exhilarating new bands around.

There’s more than a little hazy Melbourne sunshine surf in this Aussie five-piece, but we also hear the kind of meandering riffs that made Johnny Marr famous in soggy 1980s Manchester, even a jangliness in the melody and a rasp in frontman Benny O’s vocal emulating the folkier charms of Larrikin Love (remember them?).
Latest single Life Limbo is a slice of indie-pop which proves DIET. are firmly lodged in the slipstream of all the trailblazing Aussie acts right now, and are primed to blow up. A brand new EP is imminent and as their bassist, Carl, used to live in London, here’s hoping for some UK shows sooner rather than later.
