With Sankofa set the release the first track from their debut album with a night at the Buyers Club, Getintothis’ Adam Lowerson has the details and exclusive stream.
Sankofa are set to launch their new single All The While with a show at the Buyers Club on July 29. The night will see them perform alongside fellow Merseysiders Strange Collective and FUSS, with a London launch date to also be announced in the near future.
All The While, which is available for pre-order now, is the first track to be released from the four-piece’s forthcoming debut album. The record was recorded at Chester’s Edge Recording Studios and was produced by Mark Winterburn, who has worked with the likes of Plan B, New Order and the Roller Trio in the past.
Take a look around the Buyers Club before Sankofa’s single launch
Although Sankofa have been a part of the Liverpool live scene for a number of years now, you could be forgiven for feeling that they’ve never really found their sound and could have done with some tweaks and refining. Until now, that is. All The While has trimmed the fat off, and what that is left is a lovely slice of psych-pop.
It’s a slow-burner, moving along at glacial pace, and isn’t exactly the usual choice for a lead single from an album. But it really works. The faraway, ethereal sounds give a nice hint towards the direction of the four-pieces upcoming album, and it’s certainly enough to pique our interest.
The combination of haunting electronic organ and chiming guitars in the intro is reminiscent of the Animals‘ House of the Rising Sun, and leads in nicely the appearance of some seriously dreamy vocals. The track is hypnotic. It’s sleazy. It’s boss.
Sankofa release All The While at the Buyers Club on July 29.
