With her second single and first new music of the year, MiNNETONKA brings in Bill Ryder-Jones for a deeply personal affair on We Fight Fires, Getintothis’ Patrick Clarke takes a listen.
MiNNETONKA has revealed her first new material of 2016, with sophomore single We Fight Fires out on May 27 through indie Liverpool label War Room Records, with a full length album promised for later this year.
A drifting cut of gentle ambient pop, topped with the singer’s distinctive, intimate vocal, it’s her most intimate track yet, dealing with the breakdown of a romantic relationship.
“This is probably the most open I’ve ever been in a song – it contains some of my most private, personal thoughts” says the singer. “I’m not normally much of a talker about these things, but I was in a place where I couldn’t not write the song; I was at a certain point in my life and it was therapeutic. Saying that it was probably the easiest song I’ve ever written as well…”
The track was co-written with Bill Ryder-Jones, who also produced the track. MiNNETONKA also collaborated with the ex-Coral man live on stage earlier this month, appearing as part of his FestEVOL set.
