With the beginning of Spring comes a new batch of artists ready to blossom in Liverpool as Getintothis Craig MacDonald finds out.
Traditionally seen as the calm before the audio storm of the festival circuit begins, this is the time when artists look to get their game faces on, pull out the stops, no fucking about and get on it.
The artists on this week’s gig guide are prime examples of this, with many of them ready to spread their wings and prepare for the likes of SXSW, The Great Escape, End Of The Road and more. To get an idea of what to expect, have blast of our playlist to see why they belong on here and why we think you would should see them.

Matt Corby
Matt Corby: Arts Club, March 7
Australian Matt Corby has the power to bring audiences to a complete stand still with his emotionally charged lyrics. With debut album Telluric having already been compared to the likes of Jeff Buckley and an empowering stage presence, he will no doubt captivate many that goes to check him out on Monday night.
Joining the Antipodean at the Arts Club will be Birmingham four piece Charteuse who swell with ethereal shades of indie, sun drenched soul that will be worth getting down to Seel Street early for.

Yonaka
Yonaka: The Shipping Forecast, March 8
The darker side of indie will be in full flow on Tuesday, when Brighton based quartet Yonaka roll into The Shipping Forecast. Their piercing sounds may only be in their infancy having formed under a year ago, but their melodic workings are a wonder to behold.
Joining Yonaka will be a trio of local talent to check out.
The hotly tipped off kilter sounds of Moats, who thrilled many who caught them at Sound City last year, are going to be one to keep an eye on, while the dreamy sounds of Her’s will also be making an appearance as will garage rockers The Fugates. One to get down early to get a good speck we think.
Satin Beige
Clitoris Allsorts: 24 Kitchen Street, March 8
To mark International Woman’s Day, some of the most innovative and forward thinking female talent in Merseyside will be playing a special event at 24 Kitchen Street this Tuesday under the brilliantly titled night Clitoris Allsorts.
From Akasa to Faux Queens via Or:la, the range and diversity of talent on display, only goes to prove how exceptional the well womanly genius we have in our area. With Pink Kink and Satin Biege also coming to the party, this is one musical eclectic treat not to be missed.
Elevant
Elevant: The Buyers Club, March 9
Initially put together as a project, Elevant have continued to flourish to a melting point of sounds. The group play effortless hooks as they amalgamate krautrock, psyche and post punk. They take to The Buyers Club on Wednesday as they launch their long awaited third album There Is A Tide.
Mancunian hard rock duo The Hyena Kill will be out to rattle you to your bones and we expect firm favorites Go Fiasco to be at their brooding best. Completing the lineup will be alt rock trio SPQR who have seen their stock continue to rise.
Wolf Alice
Wolf Alice: Arts Club, March 9
From being seen by some as the saviours of British guitar scene, to tearing up the Mercury Music Prize, one of the hottest tickets in town this month, comes from London four piece Wolf Alice. Last year saw the group release their debut album My Love Is Cool to a raft of plaudits from all corners of the globe as they went on to sell out venue upon venue.
Later this year the group will embark on a sell out US tour before playing the likes of Parklife and Coachella. With this show an added bonus to their UK tour, if you haven’t got your ticket sorted already, chances are the ship may have sailed for you to get in to this one.

Bill Ryder-Jones
Bill Ryder-Jones: Arts Club, March 10
By now you may have guessed that its going to be a busy week for the Arts Club and Thursday is no different.
Following the release of his critically acclaimed third album West Kirby County Primary last year, Bill Ryder- Jones looks to continue his rich vein of form as he makes a homecoming appearance at Arts Club as part of a handful of shows around the UK before playing End Of The Road festival later in the year.
As his show at District proved, this will be one not to be missed and with the tremendously talented Trudy in support this is going to be a solid night in your diary.
Fiesta Bombarda in full kaleidoscopic effect
Fiesta Bombarda: Williamson Tunnels, March 11
The outrageous carnival antics of Fiesta Bombarda finally make a much anticipated colourful return to the cavernous depths of Williamson Tunnels this Friday. Deep among the labyrinth of beats will be New York Brass Band as they bring their raucous blend of brass rhythms to the mesmerising surroundings.
The Asbo Disco will be filling the place with joy while Fiesta stalwarts Euphony will be sure to get things moving. With plenty more surprises to find buried within, this is one party you don’t want to miss!
Clean Cut Kid
Clean Cut Kid: The Magnet, March 11
Gearing up to heading off Stateside soon, Clean Cut Kid head up Hardman Street to play The Magnet with the world firmly starting to embrace their insatiable sounds. Having recently released new single Pick Me Up, it wont be long before we expect the debut album from the quartet.
Support on the night comes from two acts that are gearing up to take Threshold Festival by storm. Having blasted Black Lodge last month, Lying Bastards will be galvanizing the crowd with their rock while the funk induced sound of Spink will be getting your hips grinding along to no end.
Foxes
Foxes: O2 Academy, March 12
The Grammy Award winning sounds of Louisa Rose Allen AKA Foxes return to town, as the Southampton 26 year old plays the O2 Academy in support of her new album All I Need.
The once shy, quirky singer has truly grown into a confident character that places her right at the forefront of British female pop. With her new album promising a more slick, stripped back sound, we predict an intense night to be in store.
Upcoming events to keep an eye on
Robyn Sherwell: Studio 2, March 19
Ahead of her eponymous debut album, the highly regarded Robyn Sherwell makes her Liverpool debut later this month as she take to the stage of Studio 2. On tracks like Portrait, her stylish, minimalist approach is wonderful and should tick the boxes for fans of James Blake or Jess Ware.
Wake Up: 24 Kitchen Street, March 22
Warrington’s agit-indie rockers Man & The Echo present the first of what they hope to be a monthly event at the Kitchen Street venue. The aim of the night is to bring together both live acts and DJ’s together to play quality songs with a deeper meaning to them, with all profits from the night going towards charity.
Joining the hosts will be the heavy rhythm sounds of Cupids as they gear up to playing FestEvol later in the year. Also on the bill will be spoken word and acoustic powerhouse Jack Jones who having opened for The Libertines, will command all with his lyrical masterpieces.
Hitting the decks on the night will be sets from Dig Vinyl as well as The Probes in what we hope will be the first of many nights to come.
