Film legend John Carpenter is hitting the road for his first ever live dates, and has released a new single ahead of the gigs, Getintothis’ James Sullivan reports.
American sci-fi and horror legend John Carpenter is heading to Manchester for two special live dates to accompany a new album.
After releasing his first non-soundtrack album in 2015 Lost Themes, Carpenter is following up with Lost Themes II, released on April 17 via Sacred Bones records.
Alongside that record, he’s embarking on a string of live gigs – his first ever – where he and a live band will play songs from the two albums, as well as some of his classic film score themes.
Carpenter has been acclaimed as one of the most influential movie directors in history. Films like Halloween, Escape from New York, Big Trouble in Little China, and The Thing have made him a cult hero, and their soundtracks (mostly composed or co-composed by Carpenter himself) have been equally enduring.

This second record sees Carpenter once again working with his son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies. Unlike for the first Lost Themes, this time around the three came together to work in the same city, to a fixed schedule. Its sound is wider, utilising guitars alongside Carpenter’s minimal synths.
Ahead of the album, they’ve released the album’s first single Distant Dream, a pulsing, startling attack, that sweats it way through a four minute fever dream.
Carpenter, with his son, godson and a full live band, play Manchester’s Albert Hall for two nights on October 28 and 29. For more information, including how to buy tickets, click here.
