The Manics are to expand the 20th birthday celebrations of their seminal fourth album to a full national tour, with the Echo Arena pencilled in for May, Getintothis’ Patrick Clarke has all the information.
Following the Manic Street Preachers‘ announcement that they’re to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their 1996 masterpiece Everything Must Go with a mammoth homecoming at Swansea’s Liberty Stadium, the Welsh cult heroes have now revealed that they’ll take in Liverpool’s Echo Arena as part of a full UK tour.
Commemorating the lush, sprawling arena-rock reinvention of their fourth album, the band will play the LP in full, then to be followed by a set of greatest hits, new material and obscurities, much in the vein of last year’s The Holy Bible tour, and come to Liverpool on May 13, as well as taking in London’s Royal Albert Hall for two nights.
A major departure from the desolate, claustrophobic darkness of original leader Richey Edwards‘ 1994 masterpiece, The Holy Bible, Everything Must Go was created in the wake of his disappearance, and was the record that catapulted the band to major stardom thanks in part to to the success of anthemic lead single A Design for Life.
The album was certified triple-platinum after its release, and remained in the UK’s top 100 for 103 weeks. While many of the album’s songs have since become live mainstays, some of the tracks have not been played live since 1996.
Support on the tour is to come from Editors, aside from the Swansea show where Public Service Broadcasting and Super Furry Animals join the bill.
Tickets go on sale from 9.30am on Friday December 11.
