I’ll be honest, each year year when compiling the top 40 tracks of the year I struggle. Not because there’s a dearth of tracks (that would be daft, there’s always hundreds) but because I don’t really compile it as the year goes by – and it subsequently becomes a last minute scrabble around attempting to remember what’s actually out there. The result of which can be somewhat predictable as it resembles BIG singles amid album highlights lifted from my Top 100.

Well, 2015 is a bit of a departure. Of course, there’s a chuck of tracks that do feature in that Top 100 – but they’re in the minority, with two thirds of this list represented by simply great stand alone singles – some of which are remixes while others are Merseyside representatives (several unsigned) who are simply too good to ignore. Another intriguing element of the tracks below is that there’s nine artists who have picked up by independent labels and have yet to release an EP or album – so that’s nine albums which I’ll be looking forward to in 2016. Exciting times ahead.
