Zuzu at FestEVOL
As Zuzu prepares for her support slot with Courtney Barnett next month, Getintothis’ Adam Lowerson discovers her potential.
Things are starting to heat up for new Liverpool talent Zuzu. With just a couple of live performances under her belt so far, including an impressive showing at FestEVOL back in summer, the singer and guitarist has recently been added as support for Courtney Barnett‘s much anticipated EVOL show at the O2 Academy in December. Impressive stuff for someone who currently only has a live demo available to listen to online.
Backed by a three piece band, Zuzu packs bundles of energy with her punky guitar pop sound and going from the recently released live demo of Where’d You Go? could be a perfect match for the Courtney Barnett show. There’s certain similarities between their styles; the languid, slacker guitar sounds in the verses, and a chorus packing a huge punch, and where Barnett‘s strong Aussie accent is hard not to love, Zuzu‘s ever so slight Scouse twang certainly adds charm.

Where’d You Go? is a really enjoyable track and is a nice teaser of what is to come, and we hope that a debut single isn’t too far away. The song is dynamic and driven by infectious melodies, hinting at a singer with a talent for catchy guitar pop. Bring on the new tunes.
