Slow Readers Club are creating a stir with their atmospheric and brooding electronica. Getintothis’ Paul Riley takes a look at the band ahead their headline show at The Magnet.
Steadily developing amidst a crowded Manchester music scene, Slow Readers Club have succeeded in carving out a niche for themselves. Riding high on the crest of a recent album and single release, they are visiting Liverpool this week to bring their sound to the city.
Signed to indie label Scruff of the Neck Records, their new single Plant the Seed was released on Nov 20 and brings a new darker, electronic emphasis, an intriguing development on the material in their previous releases. The warmth and immediacy of their songs is still present, but the new album Cavalcade, with its hints of Editors and Joy Division, is a step up in the world – one which has garnered numerous notable admirers including Peter Hook.

Slow Readers Club have been playing high profile shows up and down the country as well as gaining numerous radio plays including BBC6 Music and XFM/Radio X. Their following in Manchester is such that they have sold out their hometown show at Gorilla, and so a chance to see this band in a more intimate setting is something that should not be missed.
Support for the evening comes from Liverpool acts ETCHES, who release the video for their Fierce Panda single Do Nothing this week, as well as HALEM and The Levons.
