Looking ahead to the Canadian hardcore-tinged metal quartet steering their hard-touring ship back to Liverpool early next year, Getintothis’ David Hall expects an intense live show.
Cancer Bats. Now that’s a name your mother would disapprove of. And the band themselves probably make a sound she’d hate as well; all turbulent, fast-paced metal, chugging and bloody-throated screaming with some pleasingly dredging, downtuned sludge metal textures thrown in for good measure.
With new album Searching for Zero under their belts – released on Metal Blade Records earlier this year – expect a tight band showcasing plenty of material from this road-tested record. The Liverpool moshpit are also likely to expect some old favourites too, and with a further four ‘Bats albums to dip into, they should be in abundant supply. Satellites, which you can hear below, is the opening track from their latest effort, and is a pretty decent manifesto of what the O2 Academy can expect in the new year.

The band also run a perplexing sideline as Bat Sabbath, a fondly satirical yet surprisingly straight-laced Black Sabbath tribute act. They’ve even played the Shipping Forecast. No promises, but just look out for a blast of Paranoid too, okay?
Cancer Bats play the Liverpool O2 Academy 2 on Wednesday, January 27, with support TBA.
