Did you know that the best selling release of Record Store Day 2015 was a cassette? Well, Cassette Store Day is around the corner and Getintothis’ Tom Konstantynowicz has details of an 8-track compilation from Liverpool psych label Blak Hand Records.
Founded in 2013 by UK record labels Suplex Cassettes, Kissability, and Sexbeat, Cassette Store Day is upon us once again.
For its third event, tape fans are treated to releases from The Maccabees, Gengahr and Girl Band amongst others. Many independent labels have laid down their own compilations including Liverpool psych label Blak Hand Records.
They present Blak Rainbow, an 8-track collection of the North-West’s best garage and psych gems and – following the rip-roaring success of Liverpool International Psych Fest last month – it might be worth checking out this offering from the Strange Collective associated label for future stars of that particular event.
Relive Psych Fest with our extensive coverage
Side A boasts tracks from the lo-fi sounding Antelopes, surf-psych duo Beach Skulls, blissed out Freakout Honey and jangly rockers Sprinters. Side B begins with the psych rock frenzy of Two Skies leading into the crunchy guitars of The Electric Lazarus. Stoke four-piece Psyence provide the penultimate track while TVAM bring proceedings to an electronic finale.
Cassette Store Day is this Saturday, October 17, and you will be able to grab a copy of Blak Rainbow at participating stores in Liverpool, London, Paris, Edinburgh, York, Leeds and Manchester.
