Slaves

Frenzied mosh pits? Shameless screaming? Getintothis’ Lily Corke-Butters looks forward to Slaves’ November date.

Gritty punk duo Slaves are heading to Liverpool’s O2 Academy this November.

Don’t be fooled by the pink fluffy album cover for Are You Satisfied? This band has attitude that never fails to show in their performance. Frenzied mosh-pits are standard, and the duo have built up a varied and reckless fanbase. New age punk fans come together with old die-hards in the throws of rediscovery, to take part in shameless screaming and excessive head-banging.

Laurie Vincent’s riffs teamed with Isaac Holman’s, Sid Vicious-like vocals and heavy drum beats, present Slaves as a force to be reckoned with.

Their heavier material always renders the most rabid crowd reaction, but as angry as the pair may come across, their goal is simple and it is not at the level of full-on anarchy. But they certainly have something to say; they are determined to oppose the lack of personality in current pop music.

The band’s philosophy is to “just do something that we really fucking enjoy doing” and the contagious enthusiasm they have for their art radiates onto every member of their relentlessly fiery crowds.

So if it’s an evening of (evidently) expletive-laden energy you’re after, Slaves are just the ticket. It could get messy.

Slaves play Liverpool’s O2 Academy on November 24 2015.
