Liverpool favourites Bill Ryder-Jones and Spring King are the latest Liverpudlians to to receive monetary backing thanks to the PRS Momentum Fund, Getintothis’ Gregory Topalin reveals all.
The PRS for Music Foundation have announced the latest recipients of the Momentum Music funding awards. Previous winners include Stealing Sheep, All We Are and Esco Williams, who will be performing in collaboration with Loveless at Liverpool International Music Festival this year.
The latest batch of artists to win support from the fund span the gamut of the musical spectrum from the urban realism of Little Simz and YUNGEN to the thrilling thrash of Spring King and the introspective indie excellence of our very own local troubadour Bill Ryder-Jones, who played FestEVOL last weekend.
Vanessa Reed, Executive Director of PRS for Music Foundation:
“Momentum continues to be one of our most popular programmes, attracting an increasingly broad range of applications and offering support to more artists than ever before”.
Over 200 artists apply for each round of grants. Prize funds, of up to £15,000, can be utilized by artists for things as varied as touring, studio time and mastering. Winners are selected by a panel of independent advisors including record labels, radio, PR, music press and other industry professionals.
Bill Ryder Jones, commenting on his funding suggests:
“Had I not been granted the Momentum Music Fund I simply wouldn’t have been able to promote my record properly. The money we receive means I’ll be able to go out and tour, there’s just no way I could have afforded to do that otherwise.”
The Momentum Fund provides crucial support for those who don’t have the financial backing of major labels and as such is a vital source of support for emerging artists trying to build a career in the U.K. music industry.
