Vinyl Station listening night to launch with preview of new Mac DeMarco LP
As either further evidence of the vinyl revival or a transient fad, Getintothis Paul Higham brings news of an all new vinyl listening event taking place at Liverpool’s Edge Hill railway station.
Despite the recent best efforts of Record Store Day to derail it, the vinyl revival seems to show no sign of dying. In spite of its enduring popularity it is also increasingly easy to pour scorn and a dose of ridicule over the current craze for all things shiny round and black – not forgetting that must-have limited splatter pink edition.
Hot on the heels of the opening of the new record shop above the Jacaranda, complete with its vintage listening booths and coffee shop, comes the latest event set to take Liverpool’s vinyl loving community by storm. This coming Monday sees the inaugural Vinyl Station event, taking place at Edge Hill railway station.
Vinyl Station is a monthly dedicated listening evening organised by our friends over at Bido Lito in conjunction with Metal. The concept is simple, if eccentric. Once a month it will host a communal listening experience as fans are invited to listen, on vinyl of course, to a hotly anticipated new LP in advance of its official release date.
With assurances that the utmost care will be afforded to the listening experience, the evening should provide an opportunity to discover new music and meet like-minded people. As well as the listening experience there will be the opportunity to engage in a discussion of the record and share experiences. The post-listening discussion will be hosted by the ever-in-demand Liverpool DJ Bernie Connor.
The first listening night on Monday July 13 at 6pm will provide the audience with an introduction to the new Mac DeMarco album Another One, his rapid-fire follow-up to last year’s critically acclaimed Salad Days. Amid a relentless touring schedule the album is set be spontaneous and fresh, showcasing the vim and vigour of a man whose work ethic continues to belie his slacker tag.
With such events it is easy to be cynical and deride as an indictment of the shallow yet pervasive influence of hipster affectation, yet we reckon this one is such a novel idea it might be quite fun. Just don’t forget to wax that moustache.
Vinyl Station is free to attend and will take place on the second Monday of the month at Edge Hill Railway Station from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. The first event takes place on Monday July 13. More details are available here.
