LightNight 2015 Round-Up: Bernard + Edith, Moats, Earth Sound and Fire & more

As the annual multi-arts celebration lights up the city, Getintothis’ Zach Jones takes a city-wide tour of the attractions.

As a swarm of people descended on Liverpool’s streets for the annual LightNight, the buzz of the unexpected hung in the air. Few culture festivals are as eclectic as this, with a programme ranging from DJs to dance troupes there are few culture events to rival it.

So as the weather tried to make up its mind, punters did too. The Liverpool Suzuki Violin Choir played early on to a handful who were lucky enough to find them. The young stringsters were fantastic, radiating talent that could only grow with age.

Meanwhile, the Open Eye Gallery got ready for Faux Queens, arguably the most eccentric DJ duo in the history of the city, to tear the roof off the sucker. However, Getintothis headed to a very different roofless venue.

Over at St. Luke’s, Manchester based Bernard and Edith were just taking to the stage. The electro duo have come a long way since first seeing them in the city and tonight proves that. Their song writing is flawless, and performance wise seems effortless. Next up, the noisy foursome that is Moats, a band many in the city are very well acquainted with.

However as the night moved on and the sun went down it was time for this writer’s highlight of the night; the incredible Earth, Sound & Fire (not to be confused with the American funk legends with a very similar name). A blur of fire performers, percussionists and shouts filled the air and bamboozled the senses as the night ended on a mind melting high.

LightNight is another great reason to love Liverpool. We often struggle to see how important culture and arts is to the city, but LightNight is the perfect celebration of it. It offers to platform to everyone from grungey four piece bands that have crept out of the garage to choirs, orchestras and artists. You can indulge every sense and still not be satisfied. Bring on next year.
