The Getintothis’ Jukebox
Our twice monthly round-up is comprised from; Liverpool based artists (or wools), international acts soon-to-be touring the city and a wider selection of slick releases from around the globe.
Commencing our home grown quota is Obscenic produced mardy-bard James Canty. The folk-pop songwriter released the 5 track Love EP via the label that launched Michael Paskalev and All We Are.
Trudy are a blinding sunshine-pop trio. Originally based in Leeds, the band have recently fixed their abode in Liverpool following their drummers enrolment in LIPA. Familiar face; Tarek Musa (Spring King/Transgressive) has produced their infectious first release.
Bedroom producer Da Ranga has hit the sweet spot with his jazz and world music sampled groove. The previously unknown quantity has demonstrated a nonchalant mastery of home recording techniques on this nourishing and cultured jam.
LIPA’s steady stream of slacker rock continues with latest offering Sundogs. The surf-pop meets garage-rock quartet posses the required sarcasm and indifference to appeal. Think Adam Green fronting Pavement.
Touring the city this month are TOPS, The Pop Group, John Joseph Brill and Dialect. Montreal dream weavers TOPS beguiled The Shipping Forecast on the 9th of May. If you enjoy cruising to the sleek 80s shimmer of the Drive soundtrack; this band are for you.
British post-punk royalty The Pop Group have been berating audiences with immediate industrial pop for over 30 years. The band are set to unnerve audiences with their jarring clamour on the 11th of May.
John Joseph Brill drops by Studio 2 on the 13 of May. The London raised, alt-folk Radio 6 darling will be playing pieces of debut EP Pieces.
Deep Hedonia continue to raise the taste threshold with their Light Night collaboration; Your Clock Is Always Present. Occupying the decadent St. George’s Hall the night will see performances from Outfit’s über-zen side project, Dialect.
As if our curation knows no-bounds, we’ve also included four fresh releases from some of our favourite artists. This weeks picks include sonic healing from; Brainfeeder jazz guru Kamasi Washington, Washington DC’s universally rated hip-hop emcee Oddissee, Future Islands record store day release and the most recent offering from The Tallest Man On Earth.
We also try to feature one guest selection in each instalment of the Getintothis Jukebox. This edition’s modicum of sweetener was chosen by Trudy.
