With a founding member of the Beach Boys set for a show at the Echo Arena, Getintothis’ Adam Lowerson digs out his Hawaiian shirt and surfboard in preparation.
Brian Wilson, the musical legend and founding member of American icons the Beach Boys, has announced a performance at Liverpool’s Echo Arena on September 18. The show will be the opening date of an eight-night UK tour in support of his forthcoming solo album No Pier Pressure.
Playing a set of hits from his extensive back catalogue of both Beach Boys and solo material as well as tracks from his new record, Wilson will be joined by a full live band featuring former Beach Boys members Al Jardine and Blondie Chaplin.
Having released new music with the Beach Boys in 2012 to celebrate the band’s 50th anniversary, Wilson began work on his 12th solo album, and invited several guest musicians who had been inspired by his music to contribute vocals. Some of the guests on the LP include former members of the Beach Boys such as Al Jardine, Kacey Musgraves, Fun’s Nate Ruess, Zooey Deschanel and M.Wards’ She & Him and Capital Cities’ Sebu Simonian amongst others.
Support throughout the UK tour comes from classic rockers America, who will be celebrating their 45th anniversary as a band. The band rose to prominence in the late 1960s with their number one single A Horse With No Name.
Joining them will be former Orange Juice singer Edwyn Collins, who became a solo star with his huge 1995 hit A Girl Like You. Having recovered from a cerebral haemorrhage in 2005, Collins went on to be recognised for his contributions to music by being award the Ivor Novello Inspiration Award.
