With tickets like gold dust and expectations sky high, Getintothis’ John Hutchings looks forward to hearing the Wombats’ new album Glitterbug.
With a capacity of just 400, demand for The Wombats‘ intimate warm-up show at Magnet on January 16 was so high that to even be in with a chance of buying one fans had to enter a ballot.
A four year wait for a new album certainly hasn’t diminished The Wombats’ hometown popularity. Their headline April show at the Liverpool O2 Academy is one of only two shows on their European tour to have already sold out and a September date at the Echo Arena makes it a triple threat for 2015.
The show is sure to be an intriguing one, with it being the first time many fans will have heard stripped back versions of tracks such as Let’s Dance To Joy Division.
Fans however should also anticipate some brand new material with the band’s new album Glitterbug due to be released later this year.
The closest thing to a clue as to how the new record will sound is the 2013 single, Your Body Is A Weapon. However, it’s not certain if this track will feature on Glitterbug.
The single is interesting and fresh enough to keep fans excited, while at the same time it doesn’t drift too far from the bands guitar pop roots that led them to becoming one of the hottest bands in the UK.
This long awaited homecoming show, will act as the perfect warm-up before the band’s upcoming headline European tour.
