Watford sisters The Staves return to Liverpool to play a just-announced show at the Arts Club next February, Getintothis’ Paul Higham has all the info.
Our friends at EVOL have announced harmonic sisters, The Staves, will be making a return to Liverpool to play at the Arts Club on 10 February 2015.
The sisters released their debut LP Dead & Born & Grown in 2012 to much critical acclaim. Embracing the then-voguish folk sound (yet rising above the phony-blusterings of the likes of Mumford & Sons), what made their debut stand out from the crowd were the trio’s vocal harmonies coupled with a strong sense of quintessential English quirkiness.
It is interesting to note that their new EP, The Blood I Bled, has been produced by Bon Iver‘s Justin Vernon. It brings a fuller, more Americana sound to the fore. A criticism of their debut LP was that the harmonies were too polite; such a charge could not be levelled here with the instrumentation bolder and more confident.
Having impressed back in 2012 with a captivating performance at the Kazimier, we look forward to seeing how the new material plays out in a live setting and are eager to chart the band’s progress.
A limited pre-sale will be available from the band’s website from Wednesday 12 November.
