Getintothis teams up with Culture City for our second video exclusive – August’s best bits.
Summer, where did you go? Is it just me or does it feel like March? Considering we’ve digested the likes of Sound City, Africa Oye, Threshold, Creamfields and umpteen other *big* music happenings, we feel like 2014’s still getting started.
Which is kinda worrying. Perhaps even more worrying (at least for our state of mind) is there’s still the small matter of Liverpool International Festival of Psychedelia and Music Week still to come. Pass us the sedatives…
Anyways, where were we. August. It was pretty damn fun. We saw some great bands (Neon Waltz, Gruff Rhys and the triple-header of Fat Whites, Growlers and Wytches all pretty swell) and took in some fine happening (our Q&A with Alan McGee at FACT a personal high). But, the big boys were out in force.
Early doors Revo assembled some of the regions finest new artists for a FestEVOL which surpassed all expectation (catch up with our review and gallery here) while a week later MTV rolled into town to kick off LIMF year two and two weeks worth of music across the city (again, catch up with our coverage here). To close the month, grassroots fraternity Above The Beaten Track staged their annual knees up in arts hub The Bluecoat (review) while one of our picks at Sound City, Nozinja returned to the Kazimier Garden for an Afro-dance work out. We’re shattered even thinking about all that.
Suffice to say, we enjoyed it all, and have teamed up with the good folks at Culture City to capture some of the action. And following the success of our special commission with Afternaut for our Giant Spectacular video, we asked his contemporary, WYWH to soundtrack this video package with a brand new tune – it’s called Django – and it’s rather awesome. If you like Four Tet Rounds-era, you’re in for a treat. Sit back, and soak up the sights of our summer.
