AND Festival 2013 proved a feast for the senses, Getintothis collects some of the images and thoughts from a stimulating succession of events across the city.
Staged across various centres in Liverpool, AND Festival flashed before our eyes before disappearing into the digital ether in next to no time.
The depth of independent cinema, artistic endeavour and creative spirit pooled into AND 2013 was as alarming as it was arresting, and spoke volumes about the times we live in; attempting to capture it all proved a fruitless task. In the age of digital, perhaps that was the point?
We made it to the Kazimier‘s Future Primed – a suite of ‘treatments’ which involved calming light towers and disquieting ambient soundscapes within blackened conical flasks which promised to preserve our well-being – this mini adventure came at the expense of what was surely one of the Festival’s finest cinematic moments, Leviathan.
We did, however, mooch around the Deep Hedonia curated opening night with the purpose-built room-within-a-room inside Static Gallery a curio galvanised by Tomasu‘s bass-led digital thunder marking him out as one of the most expansive electronic artists of the new breed on Merseyside’s rather healthy looking block.
Getintothis‘ David Michael was also found soaking up, or should that be enduring, the tidal wave of HIVE‘s Haxan Cloak-assisted DIN 19643 – a furious mix of noise and light pandemonium that will live (or haunt) long in the memory.
What AND Festival did, perhaps more than most, is question and provoke – and while it’s a shame so much is crammed into such a short space of time, the festival’s curators can once again be saluted for their ambition in times when the arts are continually neglected – and fighting for their very future.
Here’s a video and some of our various shots from around AND Festival 2013 in Liverpool.
