Ultramagnetic MC’s, one of hip-hop’s defining bands, reunite for ultra-rare one off anniversary date in Liverpool.
Ultramagnetic MC’s are to play Liverpool’s HAUS on Saturday July 13.
The seminal Bronx hip-hop group return to the live circuit in 2013 for their classic album, Critical Beatdown‘s 25th Anniversary Tour with a line-up boasting Kool Keith, Ced Gee, TR Love and DJ Cito.
Critical Beatdown, released in October 1988, is widely regarded as the blueprint for rap’s golden age, with producer Ced Gee‘s vintage production of minimal, stark beats married to Kool Keith‘s dynamic biting flow cementing a fundamental hip-hop sound which is still copied to this very day.
The record has been sampled religiously, most famously by The Prodigy who used material from the title track for their 1992 classic Out Of Space and once again in ’97, this time using Give The Drummer Some for the basis of Smack My Bitch Up.
Reissued in 2004, Critical Beatdown is still considered a cornerstone in hip-hop, with Pitchfork rating it a 9.7 as it remains a consistent charter in top ten most influential rap albums of all-time. Ultramagnetic‘s Liverpool showing could be considered a true one off of any year.
