The La’s pull out of New York Sound City date.
The La’s have unexpectedly pulled out of their first New York date in over 20 years.
The Liverpool legends were expected to top the bill at Liverpool Sound City‘s New York showcase which takes place on Monday March 12. However sources close to the band told Getintothis they pulled out yesterday.
It may come as no surprise given The La‘s’ frontman, Lee Mavers‘ unpredictable and characteristically maverick behaviour, but the decision is a sad one for organisers of Liverpool Sound City and the army of fans eagerly awaiting their first performance in more than two decades.
It has yet to be decided who will head up the New York show.
The La’s last played in Liverpool during a whistle-stop renaissance last September before embarking over several festival dates in Europe.
New York Sound City has been organised in a bid to help boost trade and cultural links with the US with Mersey musicians and creative businesses taking over a Manhattan hotel on March 12.
Sound City – which has been backed by regeneration agency Liverpool Vision as well as the Arts Council – will also be a showcase for creative and digital firms from Merseyside who want to win business in the US.
As previously reported on Getintothis, Outfit are also no longer included in the New York showcase.
The two bands confirmed for the New York Sound City showcase are Manchester’s Dutch Uncles and Poland duo Paula and Karol.
A spokesman for Sound City said: ‘We can confirm that the La’s will now not be performing.
‘New York Sound City goes on though with Dutch Uncles and Paula and Karol performing and with a fantastic convention programme taking place at The Hudson Hotel. There will be a big announcement from New York Sound City on Monday.‘
