Professor Green joins indie stars as Liverpool Sound City 2012 announce their first headliner for their fifth annual festival.
Getintothis can reveal Professor Green, White Denim and Death In Vegas are the first names to be drawn out of Liverpool Sound City‘s near-bottomless hat of musicians set to appear at the May festival.
Sound City, the three-day music and conference festival returns in May 17-19 with pop rapper Professor Green confirmed today as one of their headliners.
The move marks a considerable change in direction for LSC booking a big charts star – his debut album, Alive Till I’m Dead a double-gold monster, spawning four hit singles including the massive number one ‘I Need You Tonight – a sign of the Liverpool showcases’ intent on bigger audiences.
Sound City veterans White Denim return after hugely successful live performances in the city in recent years. The Texan four piece, who blend garage, progressive and psychedelic rock and are hugely lauded for their blistering live sets will perform tracks from their five revered and varied long players.
Also performing are psychedelic electronic innovators, Death In Vegas, playing tracks from 2k11s Trans Love Energies album.
The record marks a return to their roots in minimal techno, deploying the rudimentary gear behind all the classics of the original Detroit / Chicago era to try and spirit up fresh atmospheres.
Away from the bigger names, there’s the usual eclectica of new under-the-radar names with Wichita Records‘ Cloud Nothings the big hype name alongside Yukon Blonde, Charli XCX, and Fixers.
Meanwhile, Sound City is proud to be hosting the UK Music Student Awards at the ECHO Arena on May 17.
Launched by George Martin, the awards are in collaboration with Access To Music and are hosted by BBC Radio 1’s Edith Bowman.
Dave Pichilingi, CEO Sound City said: ‘We’re thrilled to announce the first wave of bands that’ll make up the line-up for Liverpool Sound City 2012 – an eclectic mix of genres that makes our festival such an interesting, innovative, must-see event.
‘We’re taking Sound City to whole new level this year by bringing in Access To Music and co-hosting the UK Music Student Awards, which shows our commitment to the new breed of musicians and those who work in the music industry, as well as being a great excuse for a party.
‘We’re also launching our very own Sound City Expo – an exhibition of what’s new and interesting in music and tech for fans, bands and delegates alike.‘
