Getintothis presents the annual top 50 records of the year.
It’s been four years since Getintothis began offering our thoughts on music on the Liverpool Daily Post and Echo‘s webpages – and 2010 has proved by some distance the most wildly disparate and difficult 12 months to collate an end of year list.
It’s hard to pin point specifics but the sheer wealth of music on offer is an obvious factor. I’ve written before about the impact of technology and drowning in sound, and with the addition of Spotify round these parts in the early stages of 2010 plus the diminishing return of physical promos/increase of digital links, it was near-impossible to escape new releases on a daily basis.
I could quite easily have collated another Top 100, however, I did that in 2008 and quite frankly once you get around 70-odd you lose the will to live, let alone offer a fair reflection.
So, after considerable thought, here’s the first part for 2010. Feel free to champion, sigh or shake a fist in my direction – but most of all it’d be grand if you joined in the music geek’s ritual and added your own selection as there’s bound to be some records which have slipped through the net.
The rest of December will include Liverpool musicians, promoters, DJs and media types from the rest of the UK revealing their records of the year, plus a run through Getintothis‘ standout moments of 2010 including the best gigs, events, hero of the year and more besides.
In the meantime, getintothis:
