Texan hothouses work Getintothis’ Liza Williams into a sticky mess. YEEEHAAA!
If you ever need proof that ultra tight musicianship can impress a crowd more than jokes from cocky frontmen, then a White Denim gig will do it.
The Texan three piece kicked off last night’s set at Academy 2 with the awe inspiring All You Really Have To Do, and their blend of garage rock, psychedelia and blues kept us transfixed until they sadly unplugged the amps.
With drummer Joshua Block up at the front of the stage with his fellow band members it was obvious to see what created such a wow factor- they all knew each other’s playing by the slightest twinge of a finger.
As the set went on, tracks like Paint Silver Gold prompted squeals from the crowd, and the odd blissful smile from bassist Steve Terebecki and frontman James Petralli.
Block provided another show stealing performance with his frantic, driving rhythm. He was at it like a banshee on crack, constantly switching up styles and tempos.
Verbal interaction with the audience was unnecessary, the boy’s facial expressions said it all- they love playing, and they let the music speak for itself.
Sweat helps to show how much it matters to them as well, obviously.
They could have jammed all night and the crowd would have still been mesmerized until the end.
The only complaint was that it had to finish.
