Hometown glory, 2009 is surely theirs.
Jaws had to be surgically scraped off the floor of Liverpool’s Academy last night as hometown heroes Wave Machines crowned an incredible 48 hours with a blistering set of perverse pop.
They may have been main support for headliners White Lies, but following on from last night’s bill-topper at Static Gallery, the masked warriors were the talk of the town as the entire O2 either sung along or stared open-mouthed, awestruck by their wonky nuggets of joy.
Forthcoming single I Go I Go I Go kick-started the riot as onlookers made mental notes of release dates while the swaggering Prince-funk of Keep The Light On provoked arse-wiggling aplenty much to the delight of vocalist Tim Bruzon.
Bruzon’s effeminate falsetto reached outrageous heights on the uber-catchy The Line before catchy-as-hell closer Punk Spirit brought proceedings to a close with the Academy singing their hearts out as one.
