The week’s odd stories just keep getting better.
And you thought The Wu-Tang’s RZA playing chess in Liverpool was off the wall.
This story – via our Stateside Correspondent Huey Sipowicz – finds REM mumbler Michael Stipe covering Madonna during a late-night karaoke session in Chinatown, New York.
Apparently the dome-headed Georgian was relaxing with his partner and homies in the salubrious setting of Winnies Bar & Restaurant, on Bayard St, until the early hours when the evening of partying took a wild turn and the karaoke machine was set up.
And it didn’t take long for the shiny happy frontman to take to the mic opting to tease his way through the Queen of Pop’s salacious 1990 hit Justify My Love, much to the obvious delight of revellers.
We believe Winnies have clearly lured Stipey to their fine establishment after Blackbook Magazine declared in their recent review: ‘And when God created shit-hole dive karaoke bars in Chinatown, he first begat Winnie’s.’
Either way, we sure think Stipe’s appearance may accelerate business… Sorry.
Pull up a chair for this slice of wierdness.
