News just in! Retrofuturist, maverick and all-round good egg, Anton Newcombe is all set to deliver his latest Brian Jonestown Massacre opus – and this time it’s been recorded in Liverpool. Getintothis gives you the lowdown on My Bloody Underground…
Having frequented Liverpool for much of the last 18 months, its little surprise that the first offerings in four years from the Brian Jonestown Massacre have a distinctly Scouse influence.
Recorded in Liverpool’s Parr Street Studios (just imagine Anton coming face to face with Macca The Mouth!) with select members from the BJM, Icelandic musicians, and former Ride guitarist Mark Gardener, My Bloody Underground will be released through Anton Newcombe’s ‘a recordings’ on March 31.
This, the 13th full length album from the BJM, was recorded in Liverpool in August 2007 and completed in Newcombe’s new residency, Reykjavik, in October 2007.
My Bloody Underground offers a mix of the traditional BJM retro-psychedelia with ‘a more experimental and avant-guard approach,’ according to sources close to the band.
Stars of the rockumentary, DiG!, played two sold out shows in Liverpool last year with Newcombe a regular at the City’s Korova Bar.
