Liverpool’s songwriting force Nick Ellis releases ‘Lovers in July‘ from forthcoming LP, Getintothis’ Amaan Khan explores its prowess.
Few artists can achieve the reinvention and songwriting finesse that Nick Ellis did with his last release, Grace and Danger EP few months ago. The 8 track record was filled with tales and observations from the normal day-to-day filtered into magical tunes.
While Ellis continues to weave those observed tales into songs layered over clever guitar lines, a bit of introspection seeps in Lovers in July as he sings, ‘Am I just in love or am I just in love with being in love with you?’. Evidently a love song, he continues to paint visuals, smells, sounds, atmosphere and more importantly, emotions, in his new dose of reverberating folk.
Since the launch of his last E.P., he has been regularly testing his material live and if you were in one of those shows, you might have had the chance to listen to Lovers in July. The single is released from a forthcoming LP which continues his partnership with Mellowtone. The love narrative-noir is accompanied by a video.
Nick Ellis will also be performing at the LIMF & Mellowtone Bandstand stage at Sefton Park on July 22 alongside other local pioneers like Edgar Summertyme and Seafoam Green.
