As Married To The Sea reappear with a song from a new EP, Getintothis’ Will Neville dons his sowester to get drenched in its beauty.
Married To The Sea describe themselves as playing “rowdy indie pop”, a phrase that may need some fine-tuning in the light of I Dreamed I Was Disappearing, the first track off new EP Cold War Love, that was released online on March 11. This online release will shortly be followed up with a physical CD, together with set of postcards and photo book.
The EP was produced in Liverpool by Carl Brown from Wave Machines, with the band comparing it to the likes of Spoon, Future Islands and early Bruce Springsteen.

This new track opens with singer Nick Duckett proclaiming “I’ve got love in places that you don’t see, holes in places where it should be” before some very 80s keyboard washes kick in (think The Human League, Cyndi Lauper and Blancmange), with Simon Turner and Greg Macoy’s keys even more prominent.
Synthpop marries anthemic indie to create an even meatier, beatier, bigger and bouncier sound than their previous releases, while the lyrics attest to a difficulty in regaining lost optimism. However, the keyboard pulses lift the soul and will surely send people air-punching in a rush to the dancefloor.
Although the band sadly had to cancel a date at Maguire’s last month due to a family bereavement, they will now be playing the same venue on Saturday April 9 where we can expect them to showcase new material from their recently released EP.
